Where to Stay – The Frog Family’s Favorites

by Leap on March 20, 2012 · 7 Comments · in Hotels, Resorts & Lodging

We wouldn’t complain about having to stay at any of them, but here are the Frog Family’s favorite places to call “home” on an Orlando vacation…

Favorite Deluxe Resort – Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Simply being able to say the following makes Disney’s Wilderness Lodge theDisney’s Wilderness Lodge Frog Family’s favorite Deluxe Resort…
• “Should we take the boat to Magic Kingdom® Park or hop on the bus?”
• “After we watch Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant (watch the video) from the dock can we look for more Hidden Mickeys? I think I found one on the 55-foot totem pole.”
• “The kids and I are going for a swim then we’re going to see if we can catch Fire Rock Geyser when it shoots water 120-feet in the air.”

Favorite Moderate Resort – Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside
When the Frog Family stays at a Moderate Resort, it’s Disney’s Port Orleans – Disney's Port Orleans - RiversideRiverside every time. It’s just like those Disney folks promise…like we’re “surrounded by the tranquility of a Louisiana Bayou.” Tad and Lily LOVE the horse-drawn carriage rides and swimming with dear Ol’ Dad on Ol’ Man Island. Mommy Frog loves the dining options. The Riverside Mill Food Court has enough options to suit the pickiest of eaters. (We should know, we have one.) And if we want something a little more formal, Boatwright’s Dining Hall is just right.

Favorite Value Resort – Disney’s Pop Century Resort
Tad and Lily get a kick out of the huge icons and pools at all the Disney’s Pop Century ResortValue Resorts, but given the choice, they prefer Disney’s Pop Century. (Mommy Frog and I do, too.) About those pools…they even have their favorites of those. For Lily, it’s the flower-shaped Hippy Dippy Pool; for Tad, it’s the bowling pin-shaped Bowling Pool. Disney’s Pop Century doesn’t have a table service option, but the Everything Pop food court has everything from POP waffles to oven-fresh pizza that can be delivered to our room.

Favorite Universal Orlando Resort Hotel – Loews Portofino Bay Hotel
When I want to surprise my wife with a weekend away, Loews Portofino Bay HotelLoews Portofino Bay Hotel does the trick. That pretty much ensures its spot as a Frog Family Favorite for me, but here’s why the other Frogs love it…Bice Ristorante and the Mandara Spa (Mommy Frog), taking the water taxi or rickshaw to the parks (Tad) and the Beach Pool (Lily).
