Review: Gluten-Free, Delicious Dining at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Today’s post about Dining at the Hawaiian-themed ‘Ohana inside Disney’s Polynesian Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort comes from Alyson Frantti. We hope you enjoy it!

My family and I most recently traveled to Walt Disney World in November of 2012.  One week before the trip, I was put on a gluten-free, dairy-free diet in order to see if those foods were the cause of my nursing baby’s severe eczema.  None of us have had food allergies ourselves, so we were clueless about how things would go being on the Disney Dining Plan and eating practically every meal in a Disney restaurant.

I am so pleased to report that as always, Disney has gone above and beyond to accommodate the special diet needs of their guests.  All of my meals were amazing while on the trip, but one evening stuck out in particular and I wanted to write this review specifically about that restaurant.

A few trips back, we discovered the restaurant ‘Ohana, located at the Polynesian resort on Disney property (learn more about the restaurant here! )

We fell in love with this amazing feast of a meal and have turned it into a vacation must-do.  I was so sad to look forward to this dinner, not knowing what I would be able to have and if I was going to miss out on the whole five-course experience because of my dietary needs. How wrong I was! Soon after being seated, Chef TJ came to the table to discuss my meal with me. He was so kind and accommodating and made me truly feel like it was no trouble at all to have a special meal prepared for me. Even better, Chef TJ saw to it that I did not miss out on any courses by preparing me gluten-free/dairy-free bread, chicken wings, salad dressing and my own skewers of allergy-free meats.  It was amazing! To top it all off he prepared a gluten-free/dairy-free dessert of brownie, tofu ice cream and chocolate syrup drizzle that was to die for!

I left dinner feeling so well cared for, so full and so excited to spread the word about Chef TJ!

I had many good experiences dining at Walt Disney World restaurants and was happily cared for by all the chefs and waiters, but if you want the best of the best in special diet meals, do not miss out on a dinner at ‘Ohana!
