Long Lost Friends & Disney's Limited Time Magic

by Liliane Opsomer on January 22, 2013 2

By Guest Blogger Liliane Opsomer, co-author of "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids"

As part of the Limited Time Magic, Walt Disney World announced that during Long Lost Friends Week, Jan. 21-27, guests can enjoy appearances of old-time favorite characters at the Magic Kingdom.

Clarabella Cow, Horace Horsecollar, Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, The Three Little Pigs and other classic Disney characters will be out and about. Rumors are flying as to the other not-yet-announced characters. Will it be Jiminy Cricket, Scrooge McDuck or John Smith? If you would like to meet these unique characters, pick up a times guide upon entering the park for exact locations and times.

I am very excited about the Long Lost Friends week and hope Disney considers a few encores of this event. Fond memories of my son meeting with King John and the Sheriff of Nottingham come to my mind. My wish list would include Star Wars characters, who used to appear daily in the parade at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

It would be great to see Pocahontas and her friends, Merlin and Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and yes, bring back Tweedle Dee. Which Long Lost Friend would you like to meet again? (Share your thoughts in comments, or follow our instructions below to share photos on Facebook.)

Here are some other Limited Time Magic events to be held in the months to come. In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Cinderella’s Castle will blush in pink during True Love Week Feb. 11-17. Royal Prince and Princess Meet ‘N’ Greets and limited-edition Disney Valentine collectibles will be part of the offerings. Independence Week will be a weeklong celebration July 1-7.  Disney salutes America with a special 4th of July Fireworks Party at the Magic Kingdom. Everything will be red, white and blue, from the fireworks and Cinderella Castle down to special-edition U.S.A. shirts, ear hats and other patriotic souvenirs. Unleash the Villains Friday, will be held on Friday the 13th of September at Disney’s Hollywood Studios when the villains will take over the Studios for a fun night of mischief and a dance party that will last till 1 a.m.

Last but not least don’t forget 2013 is The Year of the Ear. Every month, Disney will be releasing new, limited-time Disney Couture Ear Hats. Already some real pretty hats have appeared in the stores and I can’t wait to put my hands on the latest collection. And as American songwriter Dorothy Fields said: “Grab your coat, and get your hat, leave your worry on the doorstep. Just direct your feet, to the sunny side of the street.” See you on Main Street!
